Our Junior High program challenges students academically while nurturing their spiritual growth and leadership skills. With 100% placement rate at the Catholic high schools of their choice, SJA graduates are exceptionally prepared for the next chapter of their education.
Students develop confidence, responsibility, and a strong moral foundation as they take on mentorship roles and prepare for the transition to high school. They lead younger groups of students once a month to complete outreach opportunities, games and activities.

Social Studies
World history, U.S. history, geography, and civics developing informed and engaged citizens.

Continued foreign language instruction building fluency and preparing students for high school language courses.

Music & Choir
Our performing arts program is stellar — students have had the privilege of singing at Carnegie Hall. The music program fosters community spirit across the entire campus.
Visual Arts
Junior High students enjoy an hour and a half elective including Cooking, Beach Volleyball, Coding, Advanced Art, Peer Mentoring,, Creative Writing and Supersport. Our students have won Best in Show at the San Diego Fair two years in a row.
Athletics
Competitive sports teams including basketball, soccer, volleyball, cross country, track & field, flag football, and our unique surf team.
Fit to Lead
Developing leadership and teamwork skills is part of our PE program at St. James Academy. The Fit to Lead program gives students the skills to empower themselves with confidence, conflict-resolution skills, and build trust.
Through sports and leadership activities, students apply these skills and incorporate them into their everyday lives. Junior High students also serve as mentors to younger students, sitting with K-2nd graders during weekly all-school mass.
