“Be kind to one another”
Ephesians 4:32

Last week we were able to honor some special people in this community at a Diocesan dinner. Leslie Beswick (30 years) and Luanne Sobieski (27 years) were presented with retirement awards. And Ms. Nielsen was presented with the “Catholic Diocese Exceptional Teaching Award.” Her award was presented by the Director of Soles from USD and two of her professors. Congratulations!!

I hope you were able to join us last Friday for the very special tradition of May Crowning. It is a double treat as the 2nd grade assists with the liturgy and joins the school in the full celebration of the mass for the 1st time. The 8th grade honors Mary in a special crowning ceremony. Touching and lovely.

A very warm thank you for all of the ‘love and appreciation’ given to the staff last week. I especially would like to thank Lisa Ronco, Melissa Mahon , Liz Torio, and Kim Davis who seemed to be here doing something to 'pamper' us every day. We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Cosmic Car Wash (Hanna family) who donated certificates for the teachers and faculty to get their car washed! And finally, thank you to Audrey Welch (Torio family connection) for donating 45 minute facial gift certificates. We all know how hard our teachers work and what long hours they put in so this relaxing facial will be a welcome treat.

We are in our third and final standardized testing period of this school year. We plan to send home results and a letter of explanation in early June. As you know, the test and format is new. The results of the first two were variable. We are hoping to see a clearer trend develop as the students become more familiar with the format and be able to put the information gathered from the data to good planning use.

Please keep our sixth graders in your prayers as they head off to Astro Camp today. They return full of stories on Friday!

Kindness Challenge – May 16-20
St. James students and teachers will be participating in the Great Kindness Challenge, which ties so nicely to our school theme: Be Kind. The Challenge is dedicated to performing acts of kindness to create a bully-free, safe and caring school environment. Students accept the challenge with the understanding that bullying is weak and kindness is strength. They will work towards completing 50 kind acts individually, in their class and with other students. In addition to classroom activities, there are some fun, school-wide activities planned: Illustration Contest for 50 Ways to Create a Kinder World SJA Book, Kind Quotes, Recess Kindness Station to complete kind acts, songs, Buddy Bench and Kindness chains.
