February 10, 2016 Lent Begins

“Be kind to one another”
Ephesians 4:32

PRAYER FOR LENT
God our Father,
You formed us from the dust of the earth
And brought us to new life in Christ
Through the waters of Baptism.

We ask you to change our hearts
As we journey through these forty days of Lent.

Help us to see Jesus in everyone we meet,
And to serve him in all persons,
Especially the poor, the sick and the lonely.

By your grace, may our prayers and sacrifices this Lent
Help us grow closer to each another and to you,
As one family in Jesus.

We make this prayer to you in His name. Amen.

Lent begins today.  We enjoyed a beautiful Ash Wednesday liturgy.  I encourage you each to find a special something “TO DO” this season to become closer to Jesus.  One recommendation is Matthew Kelly’s: bestlentever.com, a daily message from him to guide your Lenten journey. Other considerations include praying a little more, doing good deeds for others, sacrificing or giving generously to those in need.

Thank you for your generous donation of paper reams for the sister school we contributed to in San Diego. Our staff also donated several items for their staff’s faculty room. Thank you to Mrs. Schlehuber and Mr. Marquand who took three Student Council members to deliver the items. The teachers and students couldn’t have been more grateful to receive our generous donations!

Father/Daughter Dance
Father/Daughter Dance

Thank you to all who made our “Dance Weekend” a success!  The Junior High students had a fabulous time Friday night and the Father-Daughter Dance on Saturday was by all accounts an amazing night.  I would like to extend a special thank you to Erin Dionisiou for coordinating our Father-Daughter event and to all of her 'helpers'. This was Erin’s first year in coordinating this event and she did it beautifully! Also, a big thank you to the James Flores Family, the Todd and Cindy Davis Family, and the Jeff and Lisa Black Family for their donations toward the Photo Booth at the Father Daughter dance. We hope that everyone had a fun time in the photo booth. To view all the photos please go to St. James Academy's Father & Daughter Dance Password: stjames2016

Valentines and health :-) I know there has been some talk of my request that Valentines be delivered to classmates this year without a candy treat attached.  I appreciate your support!  My thought was that the classes would provide a treat during the class party/baby shower and that we would eliminate the 25 candies that come with the cards.  So it is not my plan to eliminate all treats, just to moderate as part of our health initiative.  My hope is that soon this will become the accepted plan and our creativity will come out in other ways.  Thank you!

Our annual Baby Shower is tomorrow, February 11th. You should have received details through your child’s teacher. If not, please check in with them. This is one of my favorite traditions here. It is lovely to see our students all dressed up, in red, pink and white party attire and so generous in support and giving to mothers in crises!

Due NEXT Tuesday! Yearbook Ads – Please see the order form posted below. Ads are due February 16th.

We need your help to make this fundraising gala a HUGE success! So please support this event in the many ways available: donate funds or items for the class baskets; sell your raffle tickets at mass, fish feasts, and to your neighbors and friends; grab a group of friends and form a table to attend the event; become a sponsor; and, finally, donate auction items in the form of services, merchandise, vacation homes, air miles, etc…The Gala does not happen without the tremendous time and efforts of our Gala Committees and all of you so thank you for your support.

Check out the flyer posted below for donation based classes in support of the Gala at The Movement Lab.  Grab some friends and head over to one of the three fun and invigorating classes offered in February and you will be ready to zip up that sequin vintage Vegas style dress.

If you have any questions, donations or sponsorship's please contact Kelli Fuller, Gala 2016 Event Chair, 858-692-0065 or This email address is being protected from spambots. A huge thank you to our new Gala sponsors this week. G3 Physical Therapy (Van Gilder family) is a Game Table Sponsor and Pegasus Show Stable, Inc. (Endicott family) is a General Sponsor. Also, thank you to Corvette Mike for being a Game Table Sponsor! I also want to thank all the families who are donating services or items for the auction. Your support and contribution to this fundraising event is greatly appreciated.

RAFFLE TICKET SALES FOR GALA 2016 – Please continue to sell your raffle tickets! We kindly ask that each family sells a minimum of 20 tickets. The Grand prize raffle winner will receive a cash prize of $5,000.00. Two additional prizes (gift cards) will be awarded to the family that sells the most raffle tickets and to the family whose name gets drawn from those who have sold at least 20 tickets. The Raffle Ticket Rules are included with the raffle tickets and are also available on the school’s website. For those interested, a sign up genius has been created here for upcoming Masses and Fish Feasts. This is an easy way to sell your raffle tickets! In typical Vegas style, it’s luck of the draw! Who will win? Good luck!
