Almighty God,

As we begin this new school year, we ask for your blessing on all who work and study here: Open our minds as we learn about the glory of your creation, grant us courage as we accept new challenges, and help is to play our part in shaping this community.

We give thanks for the opportunities that lie before us: for the people who help us learn and play, for friendships old and new, and for the support of our families.

We ask through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Traffic in the Area/Construction on Site/Gates Open for K-6 students at 7:45. Junior High students are permitted on campus at 7:30 for their 7:45 start time.

There is much construction in our local area: On Lomas Santa Fe, the 101 and on Stevens Avenue. Please plan accordingly, so you your child(ren) arrives to school on time. Our campus is still very much an active construction site. Please exercise caution and good judgement when dropping off/picking up your child. All students should continue to be dropped off in the front of the school. Do not park in parish or school staff parking spots. Thank you!

Back to School Forms: There are three mandatory forms and 1 mandatory volunteer/business form that must be returned to the office by tomorrow.

· Fever-Pain Relieving Form (must be signed and returned even if no fever/pain meds are to be administered)

· Parent/Student Handbook Agreement Form

· Mandatory Volunteer/Business Information Survey

Students will not be admitted to class on Tuesday, September 5th if these forms and survey are not completed and turned in.

Back To School Night—Thursday, September 7th, 5:30-8:00; PARENTS ONLY

We hope that all parents will join us for Back to School Night. This is a great evening to meet new friends, see familiar faces, learn about the school and meet your child’s teacher. From 5:30-6:00 we will be serving light appetizers (not our usual dinner due to construction) and will have informational tables available for perusing. Our general meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the hall. Please do not bring any food or drink in, as it is currently the church. Two classroom sessions will be presented following the general meeting. See you then!

Bocce Tournament

Our 4th Annual Bocce Tournament is right around the corner, Saturday Sept 23rd , at the beautiful Hazel home, a super fun event! Forms and raffle tickets went home today with the eldest child in the family. We kindly ask that you consider a sponsorship opportunity, selling your (Apple Watch) raffle tickets, as well as attending this annual one-of-a-kind SJA event. Please register early and submit any sponsorships as it helps our planning given it’s only 3 weeks away! If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact your Bocce chairs Mary McGuinness or Tatiana Walton.

By the way, you don’t need to have played before…it’s so easy to learn and we provide a full 60 second lesson! For those competitive types (you know who you are), there is a prized trophy and most importantly, bragging rights! See you there! Background Checks and Safe Environment Training for Volunteers Grades K-8: The Diocese has changed its policy regarding volunteers. ALL K-8 volunteers must complete safe environment training on the CMG website. The training consists of three videos, with questions after each one. Please print the certificate of completion at the end and turn it into the front office. This certificate must be on file prior to coaching a sports team, volunteering on campus, in classrooms, on field trips, etc. In addition, anyone, including new parents, who have not been previously Live Scanned in the diocese will need to complete the background check, also located on the CMG website. You will be billed $20 to cover the cost of the background check.

Preschool Volunteers: You will receive updated information at the orientation tomorrow night.

New Student Vaccination Records: Kindergarten through eighth grade, must have up-to-date vaccination records on file in the office no later than August 31st. If your child is entering 1st-8th grade this year we have requested health records from your child’s previous school. New Kindergarten and first grade students must also have a completed Report of Health form in the office by the same date. If you have any questions, please contact the office.

Asthma Inhalers/Epipens/Other Prescription Med Requirements: If your child has a health issue or allergy requiring regular or intermittent medication, please place the medication in a ziplock bag clearly labeled with your child’s name (with prescription label attached and dosing instructions), and send it into the office. Please be sure to include the medicine on the Emergency Information Form.

Students are not allowed to carry medication of any kind while on campus including cough drops, throat lozenges, etc. If a child needs cough drops, please place them in a ziplock baggie labeled with your child’s name and send it into the classroom teacher. Individual student cough drops will be kept in the classroom.

Back to School

Morning/After School Day Care: All students arriving before 7:30 will be signed into day care. Students in grades K-6 will be signed into day care if they arrive before 7:45. Junior High students are permitted to enter at 7:30 and prepare for homeroom at 7:45. After school care is available from 3:00-5:30 (12:00 on half days). Billing for day care occurs monthly. The morning and day care phone numbers are posted on the front of the office doors. The phones are now working. Morning: 858-252-8689. Afternoon: 858-284-9567.

Hot Lunch: Ki’s will be our hot lunch provider again this year. A very special thank-you to Melissa Kuhn, our coordinator. Be sure to update your child’s information and grade level to ensure lunch is delivered properly. Here is a link to Ki’s: https://kis.naturallunches.com/. Pizza/Ice Cream Fridays: Pizza Fridays will begin Friday, September 16th. A HUGE thank you to Sandy Dalton for helping Jr. High parents coordinate this program! Hot pizza will be provided from a local restaurant, Bongiorno’s and will cost $4.25. Students will need to provide their own drinks and sides. Ice cream will also be sold (no pre-order needed) on full day Fridays for $1.00. Proceeds benefit the junior high retreat. Use this form for the 1st Trimester

Absences/Tardies: If your child is going to be absent or arriving late, please email your child’s homeroom teacher and copy Mrs. Stowe (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) by 8:00 a.m. (by 7:45 for Jr. High students) to notify us of their absence or tardy.

Volunteer Opportunities: The front office is seeking volunteers to cover the front desk during lunchtime (from approximately 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m.). These volunteers make it possible for Mrs. Stowe and Mrs. Cooper to have lunch away from the front desk. Please contact Mrs. Stowe (This email address is being protected from spambots. FALL SPORTS SIGN-UPS ~ Due Thursday (TOMORROW) Aug. 31st

Surf Team, Football & Volleyball... Join our SJA Surf Team, Boy's Flag Football team or Girl's Volleyball team! Sign-ups Online Only - https://goo.gl/forms/tNQxlsqy0LrT3JJv1

Surf Team is for 6th-8th graders ~ Beginners, intermediate and advanced surfers and bodyboarders are welcome. Students can join only practices or both practices and competitions. Practices are every Friday after school for 1 1/2 hr mid-September until mid-April. Competitions are one Saturday or Sunday a month Oct-March. An extra fee is required for competitors. Your own board and wetsuit will eventually be required. We are also in need of surf team coaches, please contact Coach Bohman if you are interested.

Football & Volleyball ~ 5th-8th graders are welcome to compete. Practices are during PE and possibly after school. Boy's Varsity (7/8) football games are on Wednesdays 3:30pm all away; JV (5/6) football games Mondays 3:30pm all away; Girl's Varsity (7/8) volleyball games Tuesdays 3:30pm home and away; JV (5/6) volleyball games Thursdays 3:30pm home and away.

Tuesdays 3:00-4:00pm Sept 19th - Nov 7th ~ The Southern California PGA has partnered with TGA Premier Junior Golf to create a Golf In Schools program that provides children with the building blocks for future achievement on the golf course and in life. The program is an extension of the classroom and incorporates life skills and academic subjects, along with golf components. Returning students will be able to advance to the next level! Kindergarten-3rd graders are welcome to participate. Please see flier below for registration information. This is the ONLY time golf will be offered this year.


Wednesdays 3:00-4:00pm Sept 20th - Nov 8th ~ After School Hoops provides children grades K-5 with an opportunity to improve their overall physical fitness, develop sportsmanship, gain an understanding of the game of basketball and have lots of fun! For more information see the flier posted below.
