“Be kind to one another”
Ephesians 4:32

Did you know that today is National Secretary’s Day? (I’m not really sure that is the PC name for it:). I am so grateful for Luanne! Not sure how we will cope without her, but appreciate every minute we have with her and are so grateful for the many gifts she has shared with this community over the last 27 years!! Thank you also to Mrs. Pena who frequently operates in secretary capacity and Mrs. Cooper, our new Office Manager!

A prayer for our 2nd Graders as they make their First Communion this weekend:
May you always know the peace of Jesus
The light of His love
And the joy of His life within you.

Thank you to Ms. Williams and parents for the beautiful preparation of our students. We are so excited for the students to join us fully in the celebration of the liturgy! Be sure to join us for Friday mass on May 6th for Mary’s Crowning. We celebrate both our 2nd and 8th graders in a joyful tradition.

Our Rock the School Concert was amazing! The talent and passion of our students was shining! Thank you to all who participated and attended and helped with the evening. A special thank you to Mrs. Oldham for sharing her passion with our students and giving them the opportunity to grow and shine.

We want to send a HUGE thank you to Del Mar Pizza (15th street in Del Mar) for donating lunch to our teachers and faculty next Friday during Teacher Appreciation week.  Del Mar Pizza is providing pizza and salad for all the teachers and faculty to enjoy.  If you haven't been there before you have to check it out! It is in a prime location for the family to grab some great food and head down to the beach for lunch or a sunset dinner.  Thank you to Kim Davis for securing this donation.  We love our teachers and faculty and look forward to showing appreciation to them next week for what they do all year for our students and families.

Lost and Found drawers in the office are near capacity. Please come in and check if any of the items belong to your family. The drawers will be emptied soon and all usable uniform items will be donated to our Uniform Recycle committee. Thank you.

You are invited and encouraged to join us for 8 a.m. mass this Friday as the 5th grade assists with the Liturgy.  Speeches will be delivered by the candidates running for next year’s Student Council in the church immediately following mass.

SJA Earth Week During Earth Week, SJA began eliminating the use of single use plastic on campus, starting with plastic water bottles. Student Council also organized classroom "lights out" time for energy conservation awareness and a recycled hat contest for recycling awareness.

Students in Kindergarten through 5th Grade also began working with Mrs. Oldham to convert the garden area next to the Kindergarten classroom into an organic vegetable garden for hands on student learning.

Campus Drinking Water Quality In connection with eliminating single use plastic water bottles on campus, please note that we do have an outdoor water fountain on campus if students need to fill their bottle or forget to bring one. The Santa Fe Irrigation District reports that our public treated water "consistently exceeds all federal and state standards for quality and safety." http://www.sfidwater.org/index.aspx?page=158

Sustainability News and Meeting at SJA
SJA is actively working on caring for all life in our common home and creating an even healthier and more sustainable environment for our students and families. Sustainable practices ensure that human progress does not come at the expense of future generations by warming the climate, reducing bio-diversity, depleting forests, increasing pollution or reducing the planet's resource base. Projects in the works at SJA include planting the organic vegetable garden, creating a certified Monarch Butterfly Waystation, composting, eliminating all single use plastic items on campus and meeting environmental impact, health, wellness and sustainability education objectives to become a Green Ribbon school. In the words of Pope Francis, "As stewards of God’s creation, we are called to make the earth a beautiful garden for the human family. When we destroy our forests, ravage our soil and pollute our seas, we betray that noble calling."

Anne Marie Oldham has a passion for this subject and volunteered to be our Sustainability Director. She will be holding a meeting for parents interested getting involved in sustainability efforts in the Music Room tomorrow (Thursday, April 27) from8:00 to 8:45 am. If you are interested, please join tomorrow's meeting or email Mrs. Oldham at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
