Principal's News

“Be kind to one another”
Ephesians 4:32

I write today with a grateful heart! Luanne has received some really good health news! While there is still some work for her to do, it is not the dire news she was told to expect. While I guess we could choose to claim the doctor who gave the initial diagnosis was wrong, I am sure it is the power of our prayer! Thank you to all who have kept Luanne and her family in your prayers!

“Be kind to one another”
Ephesians 4:32

Dear God,

When I cannot see you,
remind me that you never lose sight of me...

When I cannot hear you,
remind me that you never miss a word I pray...

When I cannot reach you,
remind me that you hold me in your arms...
When I cannot find you,
remind me that you always seek me..
When I cannot wait for you,
remind me of your patience with me...

When I cannot trust you,
remind me that you never give up on me...

And when I cannot, well, whatever . . .
remind me that you can, you do and you will for me,
for love of me...

Bring A Friend To School Day was a great success! We had about 20 friends spend the day with us and reports are good! Everyone, including current students, seemed to have a wonderful day. I think this was a great new way to share the beauty of our community. Please continue to share news of our school with people you connect with, especially our lower grades! Thank you!

Mobile Friendly If you are receiving this note on your phone, please check out the new mobile friendly version. Thanks to Mr. Powell, our website and newsletters now are ready for your mobile devices! (Google likes us better now too:)

Parent Council – all are welcome to join us in the parish Ministry Center at 8 a.m. tomorrow for this month’s Parent Council meeting.

“Be kind to one another”
Ephesians 4:32

God to hold me,
God to enfold me,
God to surround me,
God in my speaking,
God in my thinking,
God in my choosing,
God in my doing,
God in my being,
God in my sleeping,
God in my dreaming,
God in my waking,
God in my watching,
God in my waiting,
God in my caring,
God in my loving,
God in my hoping,
God in my life,
God in my mind,
God in my soul,
God in my heart.

Dwell in me, Lord,
in all I do today:
in every breath,
in every step I take...

Remain in me, Lord:
let no move I make
lead me astray
or draw me away...

Live in me, Lord,
make your home in my heart,
deep in my soul, with peace
only you can give...
A variation on and addition to a Celtic prayer by Austin Fleming

I hope you all had a blessed and relaxing Easter break. It sure felt like a long time! I loved the pictures of students at mass and students in spirit wear:) And I hope the time away has kicked “the bug” out of our systems. We have a nice period of time between now and the middle of June for some amazing learning. The teachers have many engaging lessons plans. Ask you children about them!

“Be kind to one another”
Ephesians 4:32

An Irish prayer

As I arise today,
may the strength of God pilot me,
the power of God uphold me,
the wisdom of God guide me.
May the eye of God look before me,
the ear of God hear me,
the word of God speak for me.
May the hand of God protect me,
the way of God lie before me,
the shield of God defend me,
the host of God save me.
May Christ shield me today.
Christ with me, Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit,
Christ when I stand,
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

Tomorrow we will combine two celebrations, St. Patrick’s Day and Lent. We will wear green active wear, eat green bagels and grow closer to Christ this Lent by integrating the Stations of the Cross into a workout (or all workouts if you are interested). By experiencing physical fatigue we can appreciate more personally what Jesus suffered for us in his Passion and Death. Hopefully this workout made prayer will bring us closer to Jesus. We are excited about this new challenge! The 8th grade will also present the Stations of the Cross in a more traditional form on Friday afternoon. Please join us.

Thank you to the other staff members and to all of the parents who joined us: Mrs. Skraby, Coach Bohman, Mrs. Beswick, Mrs. Hoiles, Mrs. Musser, Mrs. Stoddard, Mr. Mullins, Mr. MacKinnon, Mr. Bandemer, and Mr. Gettinger. It takes each person’s open heart and generous spirit to provide this wonderful opportunity for our junior high.

“Be kind to one another”
Ephesians 4:32

I saw these words attributed to Pope Francis. I was unable to confirm them as his, but think they are worth sharing:

Do you want to fast this Lent?
  • Fast from hurting words and say kind words
  • Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude
  • Fast from anger and be filled with patience
  • Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope
  • Fast from worries and trust in God
  • Fast from complaints and contemplate simplicity
  • Fast from pressures and be prayerful
  • Fast from bitterness and fill your heart with joy
  • Fast from selfishness and be compassionate to others
  • Fast from grudges and be reconciled
  • Fast from words and be silent so you can listen

As part of the parish Lenten celebration, our faculty will be serving and assisting with the Fish Feast dinner this Friday, February 19th. Please plan to join us! A portion of the proceeds that night will go to the academy. There are Dinner Order/Reservation Forms on the front counter in the school office. Doors open at 6pm, happy hour begins at 6:15, and dinner is at 7pm. Contact the parish for more information.

“Be kind to one another”
Ephesians 4:32

God our Father,
You formed us from the dust of the earth
And brought us to new life in Christ
Through the waters of Baptism.

We ask you to change our hearts
As we journey through these forty days of Lent.

Help us to see Jesus in everyone we meet,
And to serve him in all persons,
Especially the poor, the sick and the lonely.

By your grace, may our prayers and sacrifices this Lent
Help us grow closer to each another and to you,
As one family in Jesus.

We make this prayer to you in His name. Amen.

Lent begins today.  We enjoyed a beautiful Ash Wednesday liturgy.  I encourage you each to find a special something “TO DO” this season to become closer to Jesus.  One recommendation is Matthew Kelly’s: bestlentever.com, a daily message from him to guide your Lenten journey. Other considerations include praying a little more, doing good deeds for others, sacrificing or giving generously to those in need.

Thank you for your generous donation of paper reams for the sister school we contributed to in San Diego. Our staff also donated several items for their staff’s faculty room. Thank you to Mrs. Schlehuber and Mr. Marquand who took three Student Council members to deliver the items. The teachers and students couldn’t have been more grateful to receive our generous donations!

Father Ricky Blessing Throats on Feast Day of St. Blaise
Father Ricky Blessing Throats on
Feast Day of St. Blaise

This Sunday’s Gospel is from Luke and is the story of Jesus saying to Simon to lower his fishing nets even when they had been fishing all night unsuccessfully. As you remember, the nets were filled to overflow. A suggested reflection: Have you ever had a moment when you just knew you were in the presence of God? Was it a feeling of comfort in the midst of a tough time or an incredible encounter in nature? In the Gospel Peter realizes that he’s in God’s presence in a dramatic way. Pay close attention to the way he reacts to the miracle-he recognizes his own brokenness. Instead of rejecting him, though, Jesus invites him, and us, into a deeper way of following him. We can take Jesus’ words to Peter to heart: Do not be afraid.

I feel very fortunate that we survived the weekend weather as well as we did. We are completely back to normal. I am also happy when we get to experience different situations without serious implications. We learned from our power outage Monday and will add several new steps to our emergency plan. Again, if you did not receive the emergency text, please sign up today! Find the form on our website under the Resources tab, and then Miscellaneous Forms.
