"We will find peace, we will be builders of peace and will spread peace around us." Pope Francis

God of all seasons,
We thank you
for the touch of coolness in the air that gives us a new burst of energy,
for the coloring of trees that shows the creativity of the Divine Artist,
for the falling leaves that reveal the strength of the branches,
for the hues of fields that bring peace to our souls,
for the smiles on pumpkins that bring joy to children,
for the fall harvest which that brings us gratitude for the bounty of our land,
for this change of seasons that reveals the circle of life.
God of all seasons, as you transform the earth, transform us by your Spirit.
Amen

"We will find peace, we will be builders of peace and will spread peace around us." Pope Francis

During one of his recent homilies, Father Ricky asked us to pray for vocations, specifically callings to Holy Orders. Let us pray that our hearts remain open to the calling of our Lord, so that we may follow His plan.

Dear God, bless each of us in our vocation as learners, as disciples. May we be willing to accept the invitation that Jesus offers with his powerful words: “Come, follow me.” May all our choices reflect a positive response to this invitation, and may we each be true disciples of Jesus Christ. Amen.

You have blessed us, O God,
with the gift of friendship,
the bonding of persons
in a circle of love.
We thank you for such a blessing:
for friends who love us,
who share our sorrows,
who laugh with us in celebration,
who bear our pain,
who need us as we need them,
who weep as we weep,
who hold us when words fail,
and who give us the freedom
to be ourselves.
Bless our friends with health,
wholeness, life, and love.
Amen.

Students are being recognized for demonstrating the October virtue of affability (friendliness), at our Monday morning assemblies and within their classrooms. Peace

"We will find peace, we will be builders of peace and will spread peace around us." Pope Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.

O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; it is in dying that we are born again to eternal life. Amen.

Yesterday, we celebrated the Feast Day of St. Francis, our Patron Saint of Animals, Merchants and Ecology. The Prayer of St. Francis ties nicely into our school theme, is being memorized by our fourth grade students and is sung often at our Friday Masses.

A prayer for our “at home” and “school” families:
Lord,

We feel so blessed to have been given such a wonderful family.
We ask that our roots would be deep in your love.
Fill our hearts, friendships and homes with your truth and forgiveness.
We thank you for each person, for their unique qualities and special characters.
Watch over each one and keep them safe,
Fill their lives with your goodness,
Inspire their hearts to follow you,
Bless the work of their hands,
And weave us all closer together. Amen

"We will find peace, we will be builders of peace and will spread peace around us." Pope Francis

Today is the Feast of the Holy Cross. For Christians, it’s easy to understand that the Cross is special because Christ used it as the instrument of our salvation. But after His Resurrection, why would we continue to look to the Cross? Christ himself answered this for us. "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me" (Luke 9:23). The point of taking up our own cross is not simply self-sacrifice; in doing so, we unite ourselves to the sacrifice of Christ on His Cross.

Please join us Wednesdays after morning Mass to pray the rosary for our students ~ Parents In Prayer.

SJA Campus-wide LED Light Install-A HUGE SUCCESS!
Last Saturday, an enthusiastic and hardworking group of parents, students, faculty and staff worked tirelessly to install our LED lights. If you haven’t been to campus yet, it truly is a lot a brighter (and cost effective). 75% of the lights were installed and the remaining will be updated this Saturday. Please come and assist if you can! Special kudos to our fearless leader, Mike Kimberlain, and the team families: Breen, Capra, Colgrove, Daquipa, Dong, Dubro, Eakin, Fernandez, Fuller, Jutronich, Kuebitz, McGuiness, Mullins, Morton, Ong, Noguchi, Platovsky, Salameh, Sawyer, Sheehy, Sundstrom, Van Gilder, Dunn, Lang, Oldham, Powell.

This project is part of our green school initiative: "A green school is a healthy environment conducive to learning while saving energy, resources and money." We anticipate 40-50% energy savings for lighting. School should more than break even on this project with rebates and doing the labor ourselves! I look forward to sharing the full savings soon. On top of this, we recycled 1000 lbs of cardboard, 800 lbs of metal and 300 lbs of ballast so far!

We will be at work again this Saturday, beginning at 10am. Please come join us in finishing up this project! No training or participation last week required:)

Mother Teresa
Saint Mother Teresa

God, Our loving Father,
You have given us a beautiful example of love,
In action through Your daughter, Mother Teresa.
In her life, She showed us
How to follow Jesus by loving and serving others.
She joyfully fed the hungry,
Rallied for the poor and unwanted,
Cared for the sick and the dying,
And sheltered the homeless.
May we imitate her love and generosity by reaching out to Your needy ones.
Thank You for the gift of Mother Teresa. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Mother Teresa was canonized a Saint this past weekend. Canonization is the process by which the Catholic Church solemnly proclaims that a holy person becomes inscribed on the list (i.e. the canon) of those persons who may be venerated publicly in the liturgy of the Catholic Church. In the case of Mother Teresa she will receive her own feast day with a Mass and a liturgical office constructed to offer due veneration to her.

The theme this year is peace, and so in the words of Mother Teresa:
"Let us preach the peace of Christ as He did. He went about doing good."

Thank you, Jillian for sharing this prayer with us at our Tuesday morning assembly.

Pray the Rosary
SJA Back to School

As our students return to school, we pray that
they will readily receive INSTRUCTION and be TAUGHT by the Lord, they will eagerly DRAW near to You and LISTEN to Your voice, they will set a RIGHTEOUS example as they live out what they READ in Your Word They will know your PEACE and protection and You will ERASE their fears and doubts. LEAD them by Your Spirit and empower them to work diligently for Your glory. ADD wisdom and favor to help them excel in the COURSE, You’ve laid out for their lives.

It was a testament to our warm and supportive community this past Monday, as we joined together to celebrate the beginning of the school year. I would like to extend a special thank you to our hospitality committee and student council for their added touches and enthusiasm. In addition, many individuals worked hard over the summer to prepare our campus: our teachers and staff, Charlie and Zelanne Mullins, Lisa Cooper and Sam Hreha and many volunteer students, including Sarah Maloney and Lil Mott, all who worked with a smile! THANK YOU! We are well underway to a fantastic year!

WELCOME BACK!

While you're enjoying the last couple weeks of summer, our faculty and staff are working hard to prepare for the upcoming school year! I hope your summer has been filled with a lot of rest, relaxation, rejuvenation and fun, family times!

"We will find peace, we will be builders of peace and will spread peace around us."

The theme for our 2016-2017 school year is a quote of Pope Francis. The quote was taken from an address on the 50th anniversary of Pope John XXIII's death on June 3, 2013. Given the current circumstances all over the world and the necessity for all of us to take action to create peace, this quote is very pertinent and is easy for our students to connect to and understand.
