“I Walk By Faith”

From the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops a Prayer for After an Election

God of all nations,
Father of the human family, we give you thanks for the freedom we exercise and the many blessings of democracy we enjoy in these United States of America.
We ask for your protection and guidance for all who devote themselves to the common good, working for justice and peace at home and around the world.
We lift up all our duly elected leaders and public servants, those who will serve us as president, as legislators and judges, those in the military and law enforcement.
Heal us from our differences and unite us, O Lord, with a common purpose, dedication, and commitment to achieve liberty and justice in the years ahead for all people, and especially those who are most vulnerable in our midst. Amen.

Exciting News! Thanks to some very generous Golf Tournament donors, we have hired a marketing firm to help us refine and deliver our message. We are really going to work to spread the good word about our community! The process is already underway as we are trying to get as much accomplished before Open House as possible. I would like to invite all of you to submit your thoughts on the strengths and gifts of this community for me to share with the marketing firm. We would love to hear your version of why families should send their children to SJA. Also, if you have stories of accomplishments of your children or alum I would love to hear those too. Thank you!

How wonderful that Father Juan was able to visit in every classroom this week! He spoke with our students about the Year of Faith and taught them to sing the diocesan mantra I shared with you last week. The student body will sing it together at Mass tomorrow. I hope you can join us. The 8th grade is assisting with the liturgy and we will be presenting the 1st Quarter Peacemaker Awards. We are attending Mass Thursday both this week and next because of our Halloween celebration this week and All Saints Day next. The All Saints Day academy mass includes the wonderful tradition of the 2nd graders dressing to represent a favorite saint. And of course all of this signals the end of the first quarter this Friday. Wow, that was quick! Thank you for your continued generous support of this community! Report cards will be distributed Friday, Nov 2.

“I Walk By Faith”

In celebration of the Year of Faith, the Diocese of San Diego has published a beautiful mantra:

Come, Lord Jesus,
Live in my mind,
Dwell in my heart,
Be my companion
On the journey of life.

I encourage all of you to join me in making this prayer a part of our daily life this year as one way to "choose to stand with the Lord so as to live with him." (Pope Benedict) Thank you to Parents in Prayer for a different opportunity to make that same choice, the beautiful Family Rosary last Wednesday evening. Thank you to Martha McRoskey for her leadership, to Nora Brady for cooking for us, to Janelle Whitton for organizing and to all that helped and participated!

“I Walk By Faith”

Yesterday I had the opportunity to join the Gospel Girls at their weekly gathering-an activity I highly recommend! They had the special topic of Pope Benedict's Apostolic Letter For the Indiction of the Year of Faith. The Year of Faith officially begins tomorrow and continues through November of 2013. In his letter the Pope speaks of "the need to rediscover the journey of faith so as to shed ever clearer light on the joy and renewed enthusiasm of the encounter with Christ." He says that "We must rediscover a taste for feeding ourselves on the word of God". We are encouraged to use this time to rediscover our faith, to continue to learn and grow, to trust that we will be guided along the path. There is much to this letter. I urge you to take the time to read and pray with it. "Faith grows when it is lived as an experience of love received and when it is communicated as an experience of grace and joy."

“I Walk By Faith”

A week full of special SJA traditions! Thank you to Parents in Prayer for our angel food celebration of Guardian Angels Feast Day yesterday! It is so beautifully comforting to know that there is a special angel watching over and guiding each of us and we thank PIP for the delicious reminder. And tomorrow, Thursday, we celebrate the Feast of St Francis of Assisi with the blessing of the animals. Christians everywhere celebrate the feast of St. Francis of Assisi on October 4 by having their pets blessed in the spirit of this patron saint of animals and ecology. We are delighted to have Father Juan (and maybe his puppy, Kaiser) join us for this event. On Monday our Student Council Commissioner of Religion, Kat Hammock, spoke to us about her favorite saint, St Therese of the Child Jesus or "Little Flower". She reminded us to love God as St Therese did, in everything, even the smallest experiences of daily life. Beautiful-all.

ACTS: an acronym for prayer introduced to our junior high students by Father Juan as he led them in Adoration last Friday afternoon. In this structure for prayer, the letters represent adoration, confession, thanksgiving and supplication (or intersession). It was a beautiful afternoon and we thank Father and Pat Villa for sharing this gift with us. Father looks forward to spending time with each class in the near future.

“I Walk By Faith”

Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe. I love this quote by Saint Augustine as we walk through this journey of faith together this year. We are learning to trust God in all things-big and small, difficult and joyful. I invite you to walk by faith today, whether in the tiny steps or the giant leaps, maybe both!

While doing some research on the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops website (usccb.org) I rediscovered this treasure: Descriptions of prayer are abundant throughout Christian history. "True prayer," wrote St. Augustine, "is nothing but love." Prayer should arise from the heart. "Prayer," said St. John Vianney, "is the inner bath of love into which the soul plunges itself." "Every one of us needs half an hour of prayer each day," remarked St. Francis de Sales, "except when we are busy-then we need an hour." This is a delightful reminder to each of us as we strive to Walk By Faith with extra pace this year!

“I Walk By Faith”

Certainly our opportunity and choice to "walk by faith" has been in full view this month. I have heard over and over how blessed we are to be in this wonderful faith-filled community with the ability to pray and to put our trust in God. I ask for continued prayers for Mrs. Lang and her family as her father recovers from cancer surgery and for Ms. Williams and her family as her mother battles brain cancer. In our faith we know the possibility of miracles and pray that we continue to see the ones that happen every day.
