"I Walk By Faith"

Alleluia!
I give thanks to you, Yahweh, for you are good;
Your love is everlasting!
Psalm 118:1

God gives us unconditional, totally faithful love. We thank him for our friends and those people who love us and are loyal in their support of us. They are precious gifts from a loving God. I am always thankful for each of you and today, especially for our amazing Gala team. We had a wonderful event-a great party! Thank you to all who joined us and to all who worked so hard to make it an evening to celebrate this beautiful community, to spend time with friends and to raise money for our children. As I mentioned Saturday evening, it is a bit of an end of an era. We graduate many "families" this year and that includes our long time decorating partner Marty Proctor (with Diane Churchyard) and our Gala "consultant" extraordinaire-Sherry Sims! And a tremendous thank you to our Gala Chairs: Kelli Fletcher-Fuller, Michelle Marquand and Lori Mendes!

O God,
it's Monday! (or Wednesday or Gala Week:-)

A new week stretches before me:
will you walk with me this week, Lord?

Slow me down before I go too fast
and give me strength to do well
the things I really need to accomplish...

Give me the wisdom to lay aside
the things I do not need,
the cares I need not carry,
the burdens I need not bear...

It is Gala Crunch Time! This is a celebration of a wonderful community and is our biggest fundraiser of the year. The money we raise at this event will enable us to continue with the many innovative programs we have instituted on our campus, in attracting and retaining our top professional faculty and staff, and in helping to bridge the gap between tuition fees and the true cost of educating your children. The Gala committee, led by the team of Lori Mendes, Michelle Marquand, and Kelli Fletcher, has put in an extraordinary amount of time and talent to create this very special experience. I urge you to support us in every way possible: donations, raffle ticket sales, labors of love! And please join us! It promises to be a wonderful night with extraordinary results that will benefit this community!

"I Walk By Faith"

Holy Week is the last week of Lent and includes the peak of our Liturgical Year, the Easter Triduum which lasts from the evening of Holy Thursday to the evening of Easter Sunday. Though chronologically three days, they are liturgically one day unfolding for us the unity of Christ's Paschal Mystery, His dying and resurrection. The single celebration of the Triduum marks the end of the Lenten season, and leads to the Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord at the Easter Vigil. The purpose of Holy Week is to reenact, relive, and participate in the passion of Jesus Christ. As Father Ernesto reminded us last week, this is an important time to spend with Jesus. We should be with Him and console Him as He too remembers his death. During our break from school there is time for both prayer and reflection, and then celebration!

I wish each of you a happy and holy Easter! Enjoy time with your families, rest, play and let's get rid of this darn virus!

"I Walk By Faith"

I believe many of you have enjoyed the books of Matthew Kelly, including one that was recently gifted to all by our St. James Parish. If not, I recommend him to you. In his book, Rediscover Catholicism, he discusses Lenten Fasting in this way: There is great wisdom in the Christian practice of fasting. One expression of fasting that seems to have survived the turmoil of this modern era is that of Lenten penance. He theorizes that even this will disappear unless we can make people aware of the great beauty and spiritual significance of these acts. He stresses that our lives change when our habits change. The Lenten experience is a perfect example of the Church's intimate understanding of the nature of the human person. The forty days of Lent are an ideal period for renewal. Lent is the perfect span of time to form new life-giving habits and abandon old self-destructive habits.

You might be interested to know that http://AmericanCatholic.org is offering reflections from Rediscover Lent by Matthew Kelly for each day of Lent. Check it out.

 I Walk By Faith

I am always proud of our students but there are times when something extra special occurs.  As many of you know, we have a new elective program in the Junior High and one of the electives is a program called Odyssey of the Mind.  Odyssey of the Mind is an educational program allowing students from kindergarten through college the opportunity to apply their creative and critical thinking skills. Teams of five to seven members compete within their division in a variety of problems ranging from building structures and mechanical devices with different propulsion systems to interpreting literary classics.  These projects are then brought to a competition on the local, state, and World level. We have seven Junior High boys enrolled in this class moderated by Mrs. Kwasniewski and Mrs. Skraby.  The class culminated in a competition in Palm Springs last weekend.  I am so excited to report that our team took First Place!!  They will continue on to the next level of competition, State, in just a few weeks.  Congratulations to all of the team: Ryan Denny, Christian Cooper, Jack McGuiness, Spencer Whitney, Tommy Churchyard and Sebastian Rohrer and Austin Majeski. I am also so very proud and grateful for Mrs. Kwasniewski and Mrs. Skraby.  They took on a completely new concept and worked like crazy to guide our class through this wonderful learning experience!

 "I Walk By Faith

From Turning Our Hearts to God Lenten reflections for Wednesday, February 27th, we hear Bishop Untener of Saginaw's thoughts about the Mass and saying "Amen" when we come to Communion.  He says it is not "Amen" to the presence of Christ in the Eucharist.  This is understood and clearly assented to in the preceding prayers.  The "Amen" is a "Yes" to life in Christ, to the many dyings and risings this demands.  Not just "I believe," but "I am in it with you, Lord.  I am with you, broken open and poured out in love.  For better or for worse, I am with you.  I drink the cup you drink.  Amen."  As we continue our Lenten journey, may we continue to open ourselves to love and life in Christ.

As most of you know by now, Miss William's (2nd grade teacher) mom, lost her battle with brain cancer Friday morning.  You have heard me say that Miss Williams came to join our community for a very special reason-each of you.  You have been generous and loving to her through this very difficult time and I thank you.  We have learned much through Miss William's beautiful love and dedication to her mom, all the while continuing to love and guide her students.  Please keep her and her family in your prayers.  The funeral mass will be this Saturday at 10am at St. James.  We continue to be blessed by wonderful substitutes in the 2nd grade.  Most of the duties have been and will continue to be shared by two experienced teachers, one you know well-Mrs. Cathee Smith and Mrs. Ginny Scharbarth.
